According to federal law, regulations for receipt and handling of explosives are outlined under the Safe Explosives Act. It also prescribes licensing for explosives manufacturers, sales and possession and lists persons prohibited from receiving or possessing explosives. The S&T Explosives Engineering program does not accept prohibited persons and all students must pass a background check prior to acceptance into any course that requires handling of explosives. Students enlisted in the U.S. Armed Services can have the background check waived by providing a copy of a current military identification card.
Additionally, the program will not accept any application for onsite training from any person that is not a U.S. citizen or "green card" holder without proper relief from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF). Distance students must provide information for the verification of credibility.
